About Us

So, you’re here, and provided you haven’t already found the bribe we mailed you, you’re surely wondering, “who are these chicks and why are they all about a fork?”

We’ve known one another since the early 2000s, having met at a local business information company that has now gotten too big to name. Our friendship was forged in Vegas, after a group trip floundered and we found ourselves the last (wo)men standing. After a night of forced conversations and awkward silences, we found our groove over a heaping pile of peel-n-eat shrimp at a local buffet. We’ve each played the role of food wife to the other ever since.

While some call Anna a pocket full o’ fabulous, we prefer to think of her as a pocket full of hungry. Originally from Houston, she’s been in Austin long enough to remember long gone icons such as Liberty Lunch and Southpark Meadows. She’s spent quality time eating her way around Manila, in the Philippines, and makes a mean batch of lumpia. Though she’s just 4’9, Anna’s been known to take down a cougar in the African tundra with her bare hands, just to see how it tasted.

Bronwen traces her love of food back to childhood, when Sunday breakfast at Shoney’s let her know there had to be a better way. An Austin native, she grew up on meals like hot water cornbread, greens and hamhocks, and corned beef and cabbage, having had a mother who moved from Alabama and never looked back. She hails from a long line of home cooks, and sleeps with a photo of Iron Chef Morimoto under her pillow.

We firmly believe that meals aren’t just about food — they are an experience. Everything comes together to create a good or bad meal; it’s not only about the taste of what’s on the plate. Still, the best way to show one’s appreciation is to do what Southern mothers have been teaching for generations: clean your plate. If pieces wind up on the table, on the floor or on your shirt, there’s no cause to be embarrassed. We most certainly aren’t. At the end of the day, we don’t eat pretty, but we eat good.
